Context: Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) is caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene and is characterised by the presence of chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, hypoparathyroidism and Addison’s disease.
